Call for the IPSF Internship at WHO – Famous Pharmacist Study

IPSF is delighted to introduce you to an internship opportunity at the World Health Organization. Through IPSF, the WHO Unit for Health Promotion will recruit one pharmacy student or recent graduate to work at their main headquarters in Geneva. 


Scope: The internship offered is for a position assisting with the Famous Pharmacist Study, which focuses on the role of the pharmacist, based on review of the work of prominent pharmacists. 

Duration: The length of the internships will be from two to three months. Regarding the terms of internship, flexibility is possible, however the earliest start date is preferred.

Program & Candidate Qualifications : Under the supervision of Dr Kwok-Cho Tang, Coordinator of the Health Promotion and Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health department, the intern will execute various tasks in the context of the research project. Based on the nature of the project, the ideal candidate should:
• Possess excellent writing skills
• Have experience in qualitative research methods
• Have completed his or her undergraduate pharmacy study

Depending on the intern’s area of interests and skills, alongside with the approval from the WHO supervisor, IPSF additionally offers an opportunity to:

• Contribute to the IPSF Policy/Public Health Committee as a co-opted member

• Partake in the IPSF delegation to the 57th WHO World Health Assembly.

• Attend conferences and represent IPSF at United Nation meetings in Geneva with either permanent or special ground passes to UN buildings.

Eligibility: WHO may accept applicants who meet all of the following conditions as interns:

• Applicants who are fluent in English

• Applicants must not be related to a WHO staff member (e.g., son/daughter, brother/sister or mother/father)

• Applicants cannot have participated previously in a WHO internship program

• Applicants who are not current tobacco users.

When accepting an internship, interns agree to:

• Conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the standards of conduct expected of a person working in an international environment in a specialized agency of the United Nations system.

• Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on WHO or on the receiving department and not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the Organization.

• Provide the receiving program with a copy of all materials prepared during internship,

Interns may not disclose or make use of any unpublished or confidential information that comes to their knowledge in the course of their internship. The provisions relating to texts prepared for publication apply also to interns. ·

• Submit a written report at the end of the internship to be reviewed by the supervisor and other interested parties.

• Interns are expected to devote themselves full-time to the assignments of the receiving unit for the period of the internship. When offering an internship, the receiving program agrees to:

○ Ensure that an intern's assignment is related to his/her field of study, meaningful for both the program and the intern, and at the appropriate level of complexity and variety.

○ Review progress regularly and provide adequate feedback and coaching/mentoring during the internship.

○ Provide office accommodation and related support facilities to enable the intern to undertake the assignment.

○ At the end of the internship, prepare a written evaluation of the intern's performance and provide the intern with feedback.

How to Apply for the IPSF-WHO Famous Pharmacist Study Internship

• WHO will be responsible for the final selection of applicant(s)

• Successful applicant(s) undertaking an internship will not be financially reimbursed by WHO or IPSF

• Applicants will be responsible for their own travel and living expenses.

• The deadline for this application is December 15st 2015. Additional applications will be considered after this date as vacancies arise or as directed by WHO.

As part of your application please submit:

• A curriculum vitae (CV)

• A one-page motivation letter. Please also include your desired length of internship, availability dates to undergo the internship, and how you meet the qualifications of the ideal candidate

• An essay of maximum 1200 words on the role of the pharmacist in health promotion.

All essays must be the original work of the applicant. IPSF reserves the right to publish the essays received (with acknowledgement of the author).

• A membership confirmation letter from your IPSF association.

The full application shall be submitted electronically to internship@ipsf.org no later than 15th December 2015(00:00 GMT). Only PDF format of all applications will be accepted. The results of the internship selection will be announced to all candidates by 25th December 2015.
